Rule #1 (according to me): Do not walk slooooooowly, side-by-side with your equally old friend up a flight of stairs in a busy bookstore, not allowing anyone to pass by you on either side, then stop right at the top of the stairs to remark on how wonderful your grown daughter's new boyfriend is.
